MD Anderson's research into alternative medicine includes clinical trials focusing on the medicinal value and unique bio-active properties offered in the natural herb turmeric (curcumin). Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric and is responsible for most of turmeric's multiple health benefits and medicinal qualities. Turmeric has shown to have a unique effectiveness in successfully treating and preventing many forms of cancer.

Turmeric can target cancer cells without effecting the "good cells". Based on various world-wide clinical studies, turmeric starves the cancer cells of oxygen causing the cancer cells to eventually to die, thus allowing the good cells to multiply and take over when the cancer has been eradicated.

One important study documented Turmeric's unique ability to target multiple-target ailments simultaneously. The report focused on turmeric's ability to treat patients with multiple ailments or diseases simultaneously, thus reducing the need for repetitive or a more invasive treatment regiment. Turmeric has also shown to speed-up the healing process for patients who are recovering from open-heart or bypass surgery.

Turmeric is known as "India's 'Super Herb' for over 4,000 years" and is the most important and most researched natural herb. There were no less than 19 medical research programs being conducted on turmeric (curcumin) world-wide (as of 2010). I'm sure this number has increased dramatically over the last couple of years. Research on turmeric's medicinal value and health benefits has grown more than 40 sine 2004.

MD Anderson Cancer Center- Houston is credited with a number of important breakthroughs in cancer research over the past few decades and we hope they will continue to research effective natural alternatives to reduce the use of toxic pharmaceutical drugs.
